Finally, after almost three weeks of  upgrading iTunes and downloading the new iOS, iOS 4.1 did enhance my iPhone 3G performance.

For some reason, my ISP decided to degrade the service and are not giving me any options to go for an affordable service that is reliable and comparable to my previous 512 k over microwave connection. I had to download the iTunes upgrade from 9.x to 10.x in almost 10 days. Every time I initiate the download it fails somewhere in the middle, and I could not resume from where it stopped.

Finally, iTunes 10 was running on my Windows 7 box, and the next steop took almost the same period; around 10 more days for me retrying downloads and rebooting the box until it happened on 21st of September.

The upgrade was significantly faster than 3.x to 4.0. we are talking 20 minutes at most.

No new features found so far on the iPhone 3G. However, performance is way better than before. No more frequent crashes in applications, and the UI response is way better than the ones in iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.0.1,. I could switch the pages, open folders and launch applications almost in 70% of the time consumed by iOS 4.0.

Yet, it is not as fast as the original speed it used to be on during the 2.x and 3.x days.

So far, I did not try it on my wife’s iPhone 3GS, let us test mine for a while until we find it OK to go forward.
